Purpose of the project

The client already had a working business solution which includes Amazon Elastic Block Storage (EBS), Amazon Elastic File System (EFS), Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3); however, the infrastructure was vulnerable to outages in a single region. The core challenge of the project was to create a Disaster Recovery procedure, which will allow keeping data consistent in case of failure of the main production region. The full strategy needed to be implemented in the most affordable way.

To enhance and secure CorporateGift's digital infrastructure leveraging AWS services, we have ensured high resilience with AWS Backup for Amazon EFS and Amazon RDS. For all Amazon EC2 instances, we have prepared custom Amazon Machine Images (AMIs). This allows for seamless launching of the required instance from scratch if restoration is needed, without backups of Amazon EBS volumes. Finally, we improved the deployment process with Infrastructure as Code tools and the AWS Code Family. All actions resulted in 4 hours of RTO in case of region failure.
